The internet is FULL of DIY videos, step-by-step blogs, and all sorts of tutorials for getting your hair into the perfect style. Here, we’ve taken four popular looks and gathered what we think are the easiest DIY tutorials and helpful photos. Go for it!

1.) Victory Rolls

This ultra-feminine retro ‘do has made a serious comeback in the last few years. They became famous during the WWII era, when money was tight and women were entering the workforce. They needed ways to get creative with their long hair–which they sometimes couldn’t afford to cut but needed to keep off their face. Enter the victory roll.

Cherry Dollface is one of our go-to hair and make-up gurus. She’s mastered the vintage look and provides an easy step-by-step tutorial demonstrating how you too can have beautiful victory rolls.

With countless variations, victory rolls are great for super-long hair, short hair, curly or straight. It takes a little practice; but once you get the hang of it, you’ll be hooked.

Like Cherry Dollface explained, victory rolls are easiest to master on day-old hair. If you notice that your hair is too oily and it’s bothering you, apply a little dry shampoo (or baby powder in a pinch, using a make-up brush) to soak up some of the oil and also add a little thickness!

You can combine your victory rolls with cat-eyeliner and red lips for a true vintage look, or put your own modern spin on it!

2.) The Faux Bob

So many women want to experience a short bob, but it’s obviously a huge change for a lot of us; and the mere thought of chopping off our gorgeous locks and potentially hating the outcome is too much for many of us to risk. There’s a solution: the faux bob.

You can have the best of both worlds–your long hair AND a short bob–by playing this little magic trick. Bubzbeauty breaks it down for us:

Not too difficult! What an awesome way to have fun with short hair without the commitment. Similar to victory rolls, the faux bob is a flexible look that you can add your own touches to. You can try something more messy and curly…

…or something sleek and straight, like the ‘do Emma Watson once rocked.

Not only is this look fun and different, but it’s perfect to test the waters. If you end up loving it, you’ll have a better idea whether you want a shorter cut or not.

3.) Fishtail Braids

The fishtail is a trendy spin on the traditional braid. A lot of girls think this is a tough one to grasp; but once you understand where you pull hair from and where you put it, it’s super easy!

Mimi gives an awesome DIY tutorial and offers the easiest method for first-time fishtail stylists:

This look gives you plenty of options: ponytails, pigtails, and even French-braid fishtails!

4.) Fake Bangs

Like the bob, bangs are a huge commitment. Not only is cutting that much hair a little intimidating, but the maintenance and styling is more than some people are willing to deal with. If you want to feel this one out without having to go all the way, try these faux bangs!

There is more than one way to accomplish this look. Something else you can try is using the ends of a high ponytail to create the illusion of bangs.

Give these looks a shot! It’s fun to experiment, and you might just end up with an awesome new hairstyle! What other tricky looks have you been wanting to try? Let’s hear your ideas.
