Many of us put our hair through a lot of abuse–blow drying, straightening, curling, coloring, etc. Other environmental factors, like chlorine in pools or extended periods of time in the sun, can also damage your hair. With all of the abuse your hair takes already, the products you use in your hair shouldn’t contribute to that damage. Here are just a few reasons why I think you should consider using organic hair products.
Better for Your Hair
Using natural hair products can prevent or even repair the damage your hair endures on a daily basis. Products like my AVEDA line of hair products are made of organic herbal ingredients that enrich and strengthen your hair. Even the organic hair color products I use have colors that are naturally derived, minimizing any damage done during the coloring process.
Chemical-laden hair-care products may make your hair look good in the short term, but in the long run, they will cause your hair to become dull, weak, and brittle. They strip your hair of its natural oils, so over time, your hair will lose its natural luster and shine. The constant exposure to chemicals will also weaken your hair. As your hair becomes weaker, it will break more easily and be more prone to frizz and fly-aways.
On the other hand, natural products encourage the natural oil production in your scalp, which keeps your hair healthy and lustrous. The natural agents also strengthen your hair and prevent breakage.
Better for the Environment
When you shower with your chemical-laden shampoo and conditioner, do you ever stop to wonder what happens to those suds you wash down the drain? All of those chemicals are drained out of your bathtub and go back into the earth’s water supply. Even if it undergoes treatment, not all of the chemicals will be removed.
Using natural products means that you’re only washing organic ingredients down the drain. This is better for the environment and prevents pollution of water supplies.
